SAS Unveils Sage Growth Partners White Paper at HIMSS Conference
McDaniel to moderate panel discussion on ICD-10 and its implications for the future path of data and healthcare intelligence
Baltimore, MD – March 7, 2012 SAS, a leader in business analytics software and services, unveiled a Sage Growth Partners white paper at the 2012 HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition in Las Vegas, NV.
The paper, The Changing Role of Analytics for Healthcare Providers, is based on a study of 60 senior executives from leading healthcare delivery organizations. The report stresses that data analytics has moved from a nice-to-have capability to a need-to-have capability.
“Change in health care is moving at an accelerated pace; and the stakes couldn’t be higher,” said SGP Vice President of Strategy Dan D’Orazio, who co-authored the paper with Don McDaniel, SGP’s CEO. “The experts we interviewed for this paper stressed that the transformation from data reporting to data analytics is imminent and inevitable.”
“The journey toward a smarter health system has begun,” said McDaniel. “The benefits will include a proactive approach to managing financial risk and a new-found capacity to deliver data-driven insights into doctors’ hands at the point of care to inform decision making.”
“The big ‘aha’ is that the senior healthcare executives clearly realize the untapped value of the data they already collect, but lack many of the deeper analytic insights needed to maximally improve patient outcomes, address reimbursement challenges, and improve margins.” said Dr. Graham Hughes, MD, SAS Chief Medical Officer. “The good news is that these leading organizations have a clear vision for how their data can be leveraged in a more strategic way, and they have recognized the potential for advanced analytics to transform their ability to deliver sustained high-quality patient care at the lowest appropriate cost.”
With more than 300 education sessions covering topics like economic stimulus, globalization, and regulatory compliance, HIMSS is one of the largest information technology conferences in the United States. Each year, the conference attracts physicians, nurses, pharmacists, software developers and other health IT professionals from around the globe who are interested in making the transition from paper to digital medical records.
